Keeping Baby Clean; A Guide to Bathing
When it comes to bathing baby, there are a few simple steps to follow to ensure that the baby gets cleaned and is safe while this is being done. Many parents are nervous about this task, but it truly is not something to be concerned about, as it is an easy and rewarding task.
A basin of water should be prepared and this should be warm to the touch when tested with the inside of one’s wrist. This is best when placed on a counter or table that is at waist height. It should be sturdy and not able to easily slide on the table.
The baby can remain swaddled with his nappy still on. Cotton balls dipped in the basin of water should be used first to clean off the eyes. One cotton ball should be used for each eye.
Next, the head can be washed off with baby soap. Holding the baby about the basin, he can be gently rinsed off. Care should be taken to properly support the head.
Carefully laying at the baby down, the nappy can come off. He can then be wiped clean with a baby wipe and patted dry. When wiping down girls, it is especially important to wipe from front to back when it comes to their private parts. This is to prevent the spread of disease or germs.
If the baby is washed in the basin itself, it is important to always support the head of the child. He should be thoroughly cleaned with the baby soap and then removed from the basin, making certain to hold him carefully as he will be wet and slippery. The baby should then be patted dry.
With care and gentle hands, bathing baby can be quite simple. This is a great time to bond with the child.
