The contraceptive patch works by releasing the skin through a continuous stream of progestin and estrogen, the same hormones as the pill.
Such patches are effective for a whole week, so we use three months along. You have to get one a week and always the same day.
The fourth week will be devoted to rest, when it does not apply the patch and must appear menstruation. After that week of rest applies the same process, because we are in a new cycle. That is, three weeks patch, a week without it.
You should know that like many other contraceptive methods, the patch does not protect against AIDS or against STDs. Therefore, whenever you go to have sex you consider risk have to use other means to prevent such infections.
We have said that you should consult your doctor before you start using a contraceptive treatment, especially if you suffer from circulatory problems, liver, you’re diabetic, smoker or suffer obesity problems.
In Spain, the patch is marketed under the name of EVRA and is packed in a month (3 patches) or quarterly (9 patches).
